Re: My best buck
Beauty buck, congrats!! Sounds like you played your hand perfectly. I find it much more rewarding when it all goes down the way you had planned rather than just sitting a random good looking spot hoping to get lucky.

Re: My best buck
That is a brute of a buck there! Big congrats to you on putting that big boy down. Good hunt and nice pass. Hard to pass a buck that would have, at the time been your biggest to date. That proved to be a wise decision though. Congrats.

Good questions! The 8 point did not come from the same spot but it did come from a bedding area in the cattails. The bed that the larger buck was in had the best bed on the property. I had a good wind for both bedding areas so I knew I wouldnt get winded by any other deer coming and possibly ruin my hunt. Other than finding a large bed right where it should be there was zero big buck sign. I had had good deer trails but no rubs or anything. There werent many trees for deer to rub tho. I just know the area fairly well and know there were big bucks in the area and once I found the bed I knew it was a good one. I resisted the temptation to hang a trail cam even though I really wanted to. I would say I was set up about 125 yards from his bed.
Just wanted to highlight this for newer members. It’s not the law but it’s common. If the bedding looks right but you can’t find the big rubs for confirmation, have a little faith. The dominant buck doesn’t have to leave a lot of sign to lay claim to a bed or bedding area.
Congrats on a heck of buck!!
Kudos for doing the homework and being confident with your interpretation of the sign. Makes for an awesome success story!!

Re: My best buck
I think that is a great story. Also great execution, great buck, great pic. Congrats.
Great patience too, on that alone you earned it. I would have shot the 125, I have zero patience.
