I would say 1/3 of my hunts take place on the ground. Maybe even more than that. It takes a little trial and error to get used to it, but it’s not as hard as people think. It can be surprisingly easy at times.
If you want some input, I’d be willing to help if you want. For this buck, I picked my spot off the aerial. When in the field I adjusted to what I felt was a better spot 15 yards away.
Feel free to PM me if interested.
Thanks Lockdown. I have a pretty good idea of where I would sit. It would expose me a bit on one side but I have seen where this buck enters 3x already (opposite side of brushy island in field) so I think I could pull it off, assuming other deer don't alert him coming from the my side/direction. Also a little concerned that he would not be first to enter plot and I will be picked off by others while I await his appearance. This is private land with a food plot where he is eating daily (often between 12 and 1pm). That may change before 10/1. I will have to confirm. He is bedding on adjoining no hunting property.

I was exposed a little on the bean field side of my set up. I was ok with it as I didn’t expect movement on that side.
If you have to, cut some branches that match your cover and stick them in the ground to help conceal yourself. As long as you’re trying to be discrete about it, generally a little too much is better than not quite enough. If i need to trim lanes I always use that to thicken things up where I need it rather than just throw it on the ground.
If they think they see something, play statue and don’t look them in the eyes if they’re close. Especially with does, I’ve had many stare downs that end with them leaving without causing a fuss. They just know something wasn’t right.
Regardless, go in with confidence on hunt day like you KNOW you’re going to kill him. Good luck!
