The relapse buck. 2018
I shot this little fella in October. I feel I need to give him some respect for taking his life. I didn't post a story after I shot him but the pics are still on my phone and he keeps popping up as if to say " Was I nothing to you".
I'm not sure why I pulled the trigger. Probably the same reason a recovering alcoholic goes back for a drink. I just sometimes can't fight the urge. I am a killer of deer.
The hunt was over quickly. I slipped around a small bedding area. Making a large circle around it to avoid detection. The bucks bed watching the human trail that parallels the bedding. Anyone accessing from the trail will be out of the game before it starts as the bucks skate out the back door. I have changed access where I loop into the woods on the opposite side and do a quarter mile detour before looping back around and coming in on the opposite side of the bedding. I have hunted this area for a few years now and had some close calls but had not killed a buck from it yet.
I climbed my stand. Got set and immediatly heard rustling. A squirrel. A minute or so later I had registered it in my head as a squirrel as I listened but payed no attention. Something clicked. The rustling sounded like paced out steps. Deer steps !!! I turned again and there he was coming right down the trail. I stood up and in one quick movement lined him up n shot. He went 25 yards.
It still felt damn good. I am still just a deer killer. Sorry little buddy.

No sir. I have this visual problem thing. When I see deer walking in the woods they sometimes turn into walking neatly packaged steaks and burger. That is the truth. The emptier my freezer the better tasting they look.

After I shot my spike this year I had to wipe the drool away from my mouth. Pretty sure I passed him a week earlier but I wasn’t so hungry then.
And he did taste great
