A good thanksgiving

Unread postby Sailfish_WC » Sun Nov 25, 2018 5:59 am

Took the camper to family land in Coon Bottom, FL to spend the holiday and the boys birthday with the Gadsen County family
First couple of days we saw a few deer and some turkey but couldn’t get any shots
Then, Thanksgiving day my son and I are in the blind and about 730ish I see turkey flying from tree to tree and then about a dozen of them converge on the ground walking right towards our blind. I glassed them looking for a beard and found one. They kept coming and when the boy was comfortable he took the shot and nailed it. His first turkey ever! On Thanksgiving day too.
He was stoked.
Had a 5” beard. ImageImage

That night he said “Dad, you can go out tomorrow morning alone, maybe you can get a deer. I’m going to sleep in”

It was the last hunt before we had to go home. I saw one doe early and that was it.
At 9:56 I was pretty much done. I had to load a camper and had a looong drive back to Tampa in front of me. I said “I’m packing it in at 10”

At 9:58 a doe streaks through the woods about 125 yards away. I grabbbed my rifle expecting a buck any second. Without dissappointment ...there he was standing in a clearing about 200 yards to my right. He slinked through the trees into another clearing where I last saw the doe. I grunted to stop him and boom.

Nothing much to look at but a nice meat deer. Image

It was one of my most memorable family holidays.
To be alongside my son and get to experience all his emotions from start to finish. The smile on his face and him relaying the event over and over and over in crystal clear detail. I feel very blessed

He’s (we) have had so many wonderful outdoor life experiences. I hope it carrys on through his life

Nice. Way to go guys    . Memorable times!
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Ha! That's just awesome. I have killed one turkey my entire life and it was on thanksgiving when I was 12. One of my better memories to this day. Great job
