I made it to the Kill Zone (pic heavy)

Unread postby Uncle Lou » Tue Nov 20, 2018 1:27 pm

I dont know how many pics are etiquette in the Kill zone and I have a ton from our up north Michigan deer camp for the rifle opener. Still don't know if I should post them all here or not. OK I'm going for it.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I killed another buck in the Huron National Forest while walking around. Something else died too. Them dang coyotes were thick.

Day one opening morning, Dan and I were back in the forest. Only deer I saw. One shot to my east. What, someone is in my section of forest?

day two lots of snow and Randy, who had a horrible accident a year ago July, was in camp again and shot two does on opener night. Kingbee also joined in on the fun on opening morning not far away. I will show the pole in a bit, but here is the forest on day two. Found two guys in the snow on my walk around, they must be hard core to be back here. Not sure there thoughts as the guy with red and black wool walking around came through their pop ups, but I bet they heard me shoot yesterday.

Day three the snow let up, back to crunchy snow in the morning and coyotes everywhere. Andy joined our camp on Friday evening and was with in the forest on Day three. He missed a coyote I bumped to him, he bumped to me and I couldn't get on it. I was upset. Then another coyote. Shot three times and missed at the second one. Very upset with myself, but I trudge on. Used to be illegal in Michigan to shoot at them during deer rifle season.

Third times a charm, two came in this time. One didn't leave

Found my new buddies in the forest again. They must have crapped as I shot 3 times at a running coyote and then blasted one on second shot right before I split them again. I try to avoid other hunters, but I have been running this section for about 7 years and never see anyone else back here. I didn't mean to interfere, but I have a job to do.

Deer numbers were lowest that I have seen back here. Adjacent private land tree farmers have been shooting deer year round on crop damage permits for about 3 years, it is definitely taking a toll.

Patrick the Killer shot a huge 4 point, DNR aged it at 4.5 years old. Why did he have to hang it next to mine. Mine dressed about 145, his was slightly bigger body.

Randy's two and mine packed in the back of the Colorado.

I took this one. Right to left: Patrick the Killer, Kingbee, Randy, Andy, and my friend Dan who runs the best deer camp in Northern Michigan

Andy took this one, I am on the right

Hope I didn't mess up the sequence and sorry for the phone users for too many pics. Shootem up BEASTs

Looks like good times. Congrats on buck.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.
