Opening Day 8pt
Don't know how to post pictures anymore since I refuse to pay for photobucket, but killed my first opening day buck on Oct. 1 here in NY. Didn't have him patterned. Phade, I and our friend hunted the property that had the most early season buck sightings which happened to have the best wind that day. Based on cam photos, the subject buck was new to the property only a few days earlier. Low and behold at about 6pm, I see a decent 8pt slowly making his way towards me from 70-80yds away. Long wait as I stood and got in position to shoot constantly ranging him until he stepped into an opening at 25yds. Unfortunately, due to a long track job (.56 miles according to ONX) as the arrow was a high lung shot, I had to leave him overnight and the yotes ate him up good by the next morning. But I have since put a nice big ole doe down and in the freezer and will try for another with my 9yr daughter.
Not a giant but a fair buck (just under 110") for NY and perfect timing as I currently have a scheduled work conflict that will prevent me from hunting from Nov. 1 through Nov. 21 (ugghhh all of prime time). This work conflict crossed my mind numerous times as I evaluated whether to shoot one so early - especially a borderline shooter - as it really puts me out of the game. But it may just have been a blessing. By far my earliest buck (next earliest was Oct. 29). Now to enjoy when I get the text from Phade and David that we need to track one of the really big bucks we have on cam after they put an arrow in one. I am confident it will happen. Both were close to a 160s class buck on opener!
Best of fortunes to all of the Beast hunters and big congrats to those that already connected!

Email some pics to me and I'll throw em up... using the beast uploading function is easier than PB in my opinion. Congrats, matt.watters2@gmail . com

Thanks guys. He won't win beast buck of the year, but all things considered, I am happy I had the opportunity.
