First Turkey, Super stoked!!
Well, sorry about the delay, I just figured out how to post pics. Sunday morning, I had Dad drop me off at a spot about a mile from the house that I had a close call with a big tom the previous morning. When I got in there at 5:10, there was one gobbling in a different spot than the other morning. I set up on the edge of a hay field about 300 yds away from that bird and put a hen decoy out. The bird wouldn’t shut up, gobbled every two or three minutes. About 7:00, two different birds catch me off guard and gobbled about 120 yds to the right of me as well as the one still roosted behind me. Right away, they popped out of the woods into the field, in full strut. They strutted at 100 yds for 5 minutes and then suddenly, one spooked off into the woods for some reason? Once that one spooked, the other started running into the deke, full strut. Oh boy, it’s gonna happen!! Sike! Coyote runs out when the tom is at about 40 yards and spooks it off!! Uggg!!! Luckily, once the yote left, that bird came right back into the field to strut. Also, the other bird that was with him came back too. They putzed around at 65-70 yds for like 35 minutes before the one broke away from the other. I could tell that the one that stayed out of range was dominatnt over the other cause it was always strutting(while the other wasn’t) and looked much bigger. But I really didn’t care so I was gonna take either one if given the opportunity. They didn’t like that decoy one bit and they were soooo nervous after that coyote came through. Once it broke away, it came step by step, looking around very nervously after every step, into about 25 yards. It didn’t like something and turned around. I pulled my gun up, they seen something and got nervous, and once he picked his head up, I rolled him!!! Yes!!!! I was so pumped that I jumped up and ran out to take a look. Called my dad and him and my brother came out to help with the exciting part, pics and telling the story!! This is my first ever turkey and I’m super thrilled with it!! Definitely used some of your guy’s advice on this hunt, so thanks all for that!! 10” beard, 25.4 lbs, 7/8” spurs
