Finally, we made it happen! Son killed his first deer.
Since the beginning of the season, I have been working on spots I can easily get my son on come gun season. What I did not anticipate was all the troubles I was going to have getting him to pull the trigger. Here is the post on the last couple of hunts. http://www.thehuntingbeast.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=42674
This was a ground blind I put in sometime the first of Oct and left it for nights like tonight. Figuring, I could grab him out of school, go behind my dads house and have a chance to shoot a deer. This is where I grew up...find it kind of funny that this little tiny piece of ground holds a nice doe group all year. I have been watching them both visually and on camera for awhile now.
We got in about 2:45 and by 3:15 to 3:30 we saw the doe come in. She was favoring my side and he had no shot. So when she turned, I told him "your going to have to shoot from my lap!" It was windy and so there was no way she was going to hear us. So he moved into position. Sat on my lap...tried on the ground, back to my lap. Finally, he got a bead on her. "Are you ready?" "YEP! I am sure!" I plug my ears and tell him to fire.
BOOM the little .243 barks and i see the deer hunch and I knew he hit her hard. HE WAS EXCITED! We waited a bit, and went to start looking for her. She was laying dead 25yds away. He put a perfect 50-60yd shot on her. He handled himself like a Boss.
Dad came out and gave us a hand. Cole was all smiles. Its was pretty cool...I grew up playing all through these woods as a kid.

Kudos to the young man.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
