Arch nemesis buck. Mi public.
Tagged out my buck tags in Michigan today. I had watched this buck all year. He was number 2 on my list of biggest bucks to kill. I seen him twice this season. I passed an iffy shot earlier in the season.
I started my rutcation today. I left work a couple hours early like I always do when I go on vacation..lol. I had this buck pegged pretty good n had him come in Monday. I decided to tweak my set up a little today n keep the pressure on this main area. I set up about 120 yrds east of where I heard him come through the other day. After about half n hour on stand I heard 2 guys talking n heading my way. Soon I seen them. They split off n one headed right to me. I watched him come to his stand about 50-60 yrds away. He walked to a bait pile n kicked some beets around n sprayed something on it. Then went back n climbed his tree. I was staring right at him. I contemplated staying but just couldn't do it. I had a plan. I floated some milkweed to checked wind. I decided to swing around into some fresh ground. I know the ground well n how the deer travel. I moved n swung to the north west. My wind would wash back to the other hunters access n stands n I would be on good ground. I set right where I had shot my 2nd biggest buck 5 yrs ago. If they came through I'd have a good shot from 3 travel routes. 30 minutes or so later I hear deer. A lone doe comes into view. I passed her. Soon I here steps then grunting. I look and see a buck heading my way. He was limping. I knew it was the one I'd seen earlier in the season. I seen good rack. If he followed the doe I would have one shooting lanes. He did. I laced him at 40 yrds. I took out his good shoulder n he bulldozed 20 yrds then silence. I knew he was my biggest buck already. I got down n walked to him.
He was done. He is a legit 12 point with a small kicker that might go an inch. Possible 13 point? Haha. I am pumped. I am having my best yr ever. One doe tag left !! What a year. I call him my arch nemesis buck. The area I was hunting I really pushed hard. I knew there were a couple nice ones in there. He is not the biggest of the 2 but I feel great killing him because they had been barely slipping me the last few yrs.
Funny thing is the 2 guys heard me shoot n came over to see what I got. It was a grand father n grand son. They helped me drag him out. Grandpa knew the woods well n we traded many stories. I would like to thank them. Thanks Larry n Elliot where ever you are out there. What a great night.
