Public Mtn Buck 10/31/17

Unread postby AttackMode » Wed Nov 08, 2017 10:58 pm

Quick story....I was hunting a primary scrape area that was absolutely on fire since mid Oct. Multiple target bucks were hitting this scrape area in daylight..during all hours of the day. The buck I killed was the 2nd legal buck of the day and he came in around 10:15. It was pretty windy where I was hanging and I couldn't get him to stop. Couple that with his steady pace and I had a dilemma on my hands. Ultimately I decided to take the moving shot. I hit him back further than I would have liked but he didn't spook at all. I watched him casually for several minutes before he headed down the side of the mtn. I knew it was going to be a long day.
After the sun got a bit lower in the sky, around 5, I got down and picked up where I had last seen him. It wasn't but a few minutes later I glassed a big white belly about 40yds down. When I got to him I realized he had been dead for hours. I got his liver and stomach with the shot.
This buck was on my radar this year, albeit the lower end, but still a target buck. I really wanted to kill a 4+ yr old this season but the time constraints of life were going to make that tough. Still a solid mtn buck and experience under my belt. I know if I can fine tune some things and keep learning my goal is just around the corner. Thanks for reading.....and good luck to fellow beasts!!!
