Great Season
It's been a great season so far. Jackson Marsh and I drew for Iowa this year so was of course looking forward to spending some time in the hills there. I also live and hunt in Wisconsin so wanted to spend as much time hunting here with my family as possible. Early in the season a doe came by and gave me a good shot which I took and was very happy to add some meat to the freezer. The next several weeks were filled with sits with my boys and both have had some nice encounters but it just hasn't worked out for shots just yet, but we've had a lot of fun together anyway.
On October 24th, I was able to squeeze in a quick hunt after work. As soon as I got settled in I sat for a few minutes then gave a rattling sequence. Just a few minutes later an 8 pointer came in behind me and worked several scrapes given me a great show. He then began to work his way up hill and gave me a quartering away shot at 22 yards. The shot was good and he didn't go far. With my Wisconsin buck tag filled I now had my weeks vacation to concentrate on hunting Iowa.
Wisconsin archery kill.
Jackson Marsh, Zonk54 and I have spent some weekends scouting together as well as several scouting missions on our own so we'd have some options. I spent my time there bouncing around properties based on sign and other hunter pressure. Yesterday afternoon it all came together for me. At 3:15 I saw a doe running about 100 yards away, she stopped and looked behind her so was hoping a buck was on her trail. A few seconds later I saw him and knew I'd shoot him if given the opportunity. She made her way in front of me at about 20 yards and he wasn't far behind her. I drew my bow and the path he took wasn't exactly the same as the one the doe had taken. After being drawn for seeming forever he gave me a shot that I liked. I took it and thank goodness he didn't run down the steep hill I was adjacent to, he ran parallel to the hill and went down quickly.
Iowa archery kill.
I texted JM when I found him and he met me to help get him out of the woods, a huge thanks JM! I'll be able to get in a few more sits with the boys and hopefully we'll have some more action then it's on to gun season which is a fun social gathering and hunt. Congratulations to everyone who's been successful and good luck to everyone else still out there.
JM will be helping me with picture shortly, thanks again!

Just my two big guns
Congrats JAB! Two good ones in one season is pretty special.
I was just itching to get out of the stand yesterday and your kill text was the perfect reason.
