1st xbow kill

Unread postby stash59 » Wed Nov 01, 2017 4:25 pm

Pushed myself hard and got in an afternoon hunt today (Halloween). I have an overlooked spot less than 200 yards from where I park the car. Got in and totally setup by 3:00 pm. I was wearing my chest waders because I was sitting on my plywood seat, backpack backrest combo. In 2" of water in amongst some cattails. Details on all of this is in my journal.

http://www.thehuntingbeast.com/viewtopic.php?f=191&t=39045&start=45

I was in spot 1 tonite. The walk in was tough, but I made it okay. Getting set up was tricky. The water was deeper than in August. So trying to keep my hands and arms dry was challenging. Just before 4:00 I had to pee. Getting stood up was somewhat of an ordeal, to try and keep my gloves dry. Finally settled on taking them off and just getting my hands wet. Once standing it was off with one layer on top, drop the waders. Do my business and wrench the waders back up in place. Made a little adjustment to my backrest which made things more comfortable.

By 5:00 I had had to pee 3 more times.

Shortly later I heard a slosh. Followed by more sloshing. That, from Beast members descriptions. I knew had to be a 4 legged critter with longer legs. Soon the head of a doe came into my viewing lane. It looked like that of an adult. I got my xbow pointed down my shooting lane. As soon as her head got in the lane she looked my way. But then turned and walked so I had her vitals in the open. I was making sure she was an adult as I was aiming. Suddenly she turned and looked my way again. I realized my crosshairs were on the right spot and pulled the trigger. All of this only took milli seconds.

The firing of the xbow made my sight picture jump abit, but, I thought I saw my flourescent orange knock right where I aimed. She crashed off angling to my right. I got stood up and listened and watched for a couple minutes. My watch said 5:19. Then I had to pee again.

I decided to crank up the xbow again and sit until closing. Hoping a buck would follow. No dice.

Had a pretty decent bloodtrail. Hardest part was walking through the muck and the humps. She ran less than 50 yards.

Lil' Bro' and hunter_mike once again answered the call and sledded her out for me. Mike if you see this, please add the pic you took here also. Thanx!!!

I know this is a pretty long winded story for a doe kill. But I had alot of firsts with this hunt. All of which have boosted my confidence in Beast style marsh hunting. Plus with how my year has been going, this may be the highlight of it.

So despite having what seems like insurmountable odds stacked against you. Keep trying and just give it your best. You never know what the outcome may be!!!

Congrats to all of the recent killers. Good luck and safe hunts to all still after it!!!

Your story made me have to go pee. You must be a hypnotist or something...
