The place I decided to sit first I scouted hard in may. I walked every inch of this area and only saw 1 set of deer tracks a 1 awesome bear bed. I was dissapointed in the spot and wrote it off. Fast forward 5 months and the hunt is getting close. With 2 weeks to go and the archery hunt over I decided to do a ride through. Well a lot of the places I liked looked like they had been hunted during archery so I decided to take a walk. Curiosity got me and I had to go back to that section of swamp that was so void of deer 5 months earlier. Things had changed. Deer sign everywhere. Perfect.
Kill day was the first day of the hunt. I don't know how far but I walked for 50 min before entering the swamp. I get in there and in the dark, I got turned around a little bit. I knew I was close but things look different at night with a light. I'm getting frustrated but start looking around and there is a great run coming out of the water and another running the water line. I set up. As it got light I realized I was only 20yrds from the spot I picked in the daylight. Even better. As the woods start to wake up I watch a few squirrels to my right. I look away and hear those squirrels again. I know its the squirrels but I have to look any way. Its a buck cruising the edge of the water. When he clears some brush he's about 20yrds out. I shoot, he drops, hunts over in 20 min.
No moccasins were hurt in the pursuit of this deer...today
