I got outta there at 5:30. I checked wind n lined it up to my nearest spot. Legal shooting ended at somewhere around 7:18. I got in my stand around 6. I hunted this spot a few times the last couple yrs n could never beat the thermals. There is a huge primary scrape that always gets worked right where the trail comes out of the swamp n meets hardwoods. It is very overlooked. The hardwoods is only maybe 5 acres n butts up to a small subdivision. The human trail loops around the swamp and into thousands of acres on the back n that's where everyone goes. I hunted the front literally 30 yrds off the human trail just on edge of the swamp.
I knew from trying to hunt it in the past I couldn't set up on the scrape because at thermal switch it pulls my scent right to the beds. So I hung up about 50 yrds short n set up. I could hear acorns dropping everywhere. I wasn't on stand 15 minutes n looked to my right. A nice buck popped out of the cattails n was headed my way. It happened quick. In seconds he was 20 yrds away. I mouth grunted n stopped him n zipped him. It hit him dead in the spine n blew out his heart on other side. He didn't go a step.
I called my wife n told her get the boys ready. They helped with the short drag out.. My best archery buck yet !!!!! Michigan public land !!!! Thanks again to all you guys have shared. This buck is a direct result of this site.
