Successful observation.
10/10/17 we get an ENE wind, supposedly. I made my decision to hunt a remote over grown ag field that runs north and south, which would be perfect for the ENE wind. There are 2 field, side by side separated by an over grown ditch and boardered by thick timber on 3 sides. The 2 field might add up to be 5 achers. There is thick bedding along the north edge and along the east edge as well.
So as I am making my way up the east edge of the field I start testing the wind. Well as you know it's not a ENE wind. It appears to be blowing every direction and swirling bad. Canceled that plan of hunting near the bedding. So I backed out a safe distance and posted up for an observation sit. This is the first time I have done an observation sit. And I am glad I did. As the night went on I seen 8 does and fawns and 5 different bucks. Only 1 being a shooter in my standard. All 5 bucks exited the north edge bedding walking to the SE. I am not sure what the wind was doing at that point. Still swirling I suppose. The shooter buck was the last to enter the field. He came out with about 15 minutes to spare.
10/11/17 checked the wind almost all day and it stayed consistent for the most part all day. NNE 10-15 mph and overcast. Perfect I knew what had to happen. I picked the kill tree the night before from my observation sit. I pick a tree in the ditch separating the fields. I only had to get 2 sticks up. Had deer in the field as I finished hanging the stand. Had lost of action all night with does and fawns again. With 15 minutes left here comes my target. He did the exact same thing as the night before. The tree I picked put him right at 20 yard a little quartering away. And now he is chilling out in my shop.
Big eye opener for me with the observation sit. If I would have just packed it up and went home when the wind wasn't right I probably wouldn't have had the shot at this buck. Another great lesson learned for the Beast.

Very nice!! Well executed! This setup sounds very similar to where I just killed my buck Tuesday night. I had done two sits and adjusted on the third based on what I had seen and killed him that sit. Once an observation sit works out like that you really start to see the benefit of doing that! Congrats!
