Ended the drought
Ended up getting lucky last night during Wisconsin's opener. It was pretty warm but had a steady southerly breeze that made it more comfortable. This was a spot I scouted out years back and finally hunted last year. I suspected it would be good being it's an oak stand that butts up against bedding. The spot did not disappoint. There were acorns all over the island and fresh rubs.
Luckily with the steady breeze I was able to set up with some good cover noise. Could only get up about 10' in the tree I wanted to set up in. A little after 6 I noticed a nice buck walking in with a smaller buck. The bigger buck almost came in on a strong but luckily offered a at 15 yards. Blood wasn't great so I packed up to head back to the car to drop off my stuff and get dragging help. I tried to avoid where I suspected where the deer ran off to but ended up lighting up his whiye belly in the woods. He's a mainframe 10 with a couple stickers on his right side so a 12 pointer. I think he might be a 2 year old but I am very happy with it. It was a long drag and a late night but it was sweet after not killing anything the past few years and losing a doe last year.
I owe thanks to a lot of guys on this site for all the help over the years. I wouldn't have had the confidence to hunt that setup last night without all that I have learned here.
