I didn't build that gun or pick out the wood....


I am going to be starting a Flint pistol soon... basically exhibition grade maple. I am dying to see what it looks like when it's finished. Super curly and some burl to it.

I may refinish that smoothbore too...the wood is pretty good..the finish...not so much. Pretty flat and muddy. Different techniques can make that wood really pop...finished right, curly maple can take on a holographic effect and really glow. It's really fun wood to finish.


My goal after I finish the pistol is to shoot a turkey with it. Sounds crazy. But it's possible I think. It's a 54cal smoothbore. I think if I "bend the rules" and load it with #10 TSS shot and 50gr or so of powder, it'll thump a bird to 15-20yds...we'll see how it patterns and penetrates first..TSS will give me the pattern density and penetration though I think.
