cautght one!

I just got done typing a fairly lengthy write-up and now I don't think it posted for some reason. I need to take this all one step at a time. Lets see if this picture actually comes thru with a mini message

November 1st, SE OH, 1/2 hour after day break. Unfolded in less that 10 seconds from hearing first crunch until impact.

I had this all typed up once, hit submit twice, then message failed to post? I've been a member for almost a year now. Theres so much knowledge here it literally takes a few years for it to sink in/ be incorporated into my attack. I still don't have a laundry list of great buck beds so still relying heavily on rut movement. Have been having fun this fall doing one time sits trying to save my better spots.

This is my biggest bow kill which I can say for the 4th time in 6 years. Guess it shows how low I started - cuz Theres still room to grow. Shot him from a first time sit in one of my better trees.

Bed to feed pattern I believe, no rut behavior. From initial crunch of leaves I turned my head, saw brown, reached for bow, stood up, glanced back to see horns, clipped on release, pulled back and let fly. He was almost thru my shooting lane at that point. It all went down in less than 10 seconds. Hit him a little back, but immediately felt "dead deer".

Climbed down after 20 minutes. No arrow, hair or blood, great! He ran straight away on impact. Snuck out of the woods so as not to disturb. Went to work to get a few things done. Called a buddy and explained the scenario - he said go find him, no need to wait any longer. Got back there at 2pm, way too warm to let deer lay. Started at the crest of the hill where he disappeared. Not visible thru the mature forest. Followed the crest around his suspected route of travel, within minutes I saw the white of his belly below me. I've had unending grid searches that came up empty before, never expected to find him this easy without one drop of blood.

2 blade Rage sliced guts and liver. Broke 7th rib from rear on opposite side but didn't break hide so no blood came out. I must be slow, took me part of 4 days to skin, butcher, grind, wrap, toss parts, cape him out, boil skull, relax.

Sure wish I had another buck tag! If my progress continues I'll likely try some out of state hunts to fill more buck tags. Like so many on here, I can't say enough about the knowledge everyone contributes to this site. I'd like to meet some fellow beasts if you're ever in SE OH. I struggle to find guys that really like to HUNT deer vs cornpiling them.

Congrats to everyone with blood under their fingernails. My hands would hurt from high 5-ing all the killers. For all the rest, there's still lots of hunting left.

Enjoy
