The Pond Buck
Here is the buck I shot saturday afternoon. I saw and passed up 5 bucks during the week cruising through a funnel between doe bedding areas in this area with the biggest being a 10 point with short tines. With the south wind I moved a bit to the east and was able to set up about 20 feet from the south side of a pond, that deer have to skirt around, but when they do they will walk as close as possible to the pond.
I was in the tree for less than 5 minutes when a doe approached from the wast. She got a drink and proceeded to walk the edge of the pond which put her 15 feet directly downwind from me. She hit my scent and stood for quite a while looking around for me but she never figured out where I was. Eventually she cautiously walked back the way she came from.
At about 5:15 I could hear quite a bit of walking off to my NW but I couldn't see what it was. As I listened I started to think it might be turkeys. With the noise in the leaves I figured it might be a good time to throw out a bleat from my can call. I turned the can one time and immediately see a buck who was at the pond getting a drink. He perked right up when he heard the call and started walking directly south. I can't believe it he stops for just a couple seconds but then continues on a path that will putt him at about 20 yards from me. When he passed behind a clump of trees I came to full draw. When he emerged I had my pin on him, I bleated with my mouth he stopped and I let him have it.
At the shot he jumped and then trotted rather slowly for about 25 yards, he stopped his but started swaying and he went down it was awesome. I was in disbelief.

That's an awesome deer! Per capita I don't think any other forum can match the beast this year!
