This is interesting terrain. The swamps around here are overgrown with head High vegatation this time of year and the bottoms are really soft. Does this area only flood occasionally? Or is it salt water that kills off the vegetation?

This is a great question. I never really thought about it. I wish I took more pics of the surrounding terrain. The area is flooded most of the year I think, I am not sure as I haven't ever been to the area before and don't really hunt this region of the state. But from what I have been told it is always wet. I am not sure why vegetation has not taken over that open area. It is surrounded by sloughs which are knee-waist deep water with grass/brush that would be over your head. Then you have some small patches of higher ground which are either pine, oak, or palm heads. It is a pretty crazy looking terrain and looks nothing like I expected from the aerial.
