Well with the season comming to an end, I headed up to my grandfather's cabin in western Wisconsin. It's been a long spring for me again! These are definitely the dog days of turkey hunting. I hunted 5 out of the 6 seasons. My but is dragging a little. Lost 18 lbs from scouting, walking, hunting, mushroom picking ect... already killing 3 birds I was not to worried about killing one. I just wanted to enjoy the weekend in the wild. My grandfather has been telling me about a tom that has been roosting right behind our cabin!!! That peaked my interest! I arrived Friday eavning around 8pm. I unlocked my truck and grabbed my bag of tricks and walked up the ridge. I got to the top and waited until the time was right. I hooted 2-3 times with no response! I laughed and told my self it's not that easy lol. I headed back down the ridge. I stopped a quater of the way down and tried on last call. This time I pulled out my secret whistle! I gave it a light blow and it worked it's magic! Suddenly in the distance I heard him !!! Soft gooobbbblllle!! I quickly started running up the ridge. I closed the distance and pin pointed him! The next morning I got in the timber very early. I set up about 40 yards from him. I set just one decoy on a loggin road. As day light came the song birds started to sing. Suddenly in the distance I heard a barred owl, and then all of a sudden GOBBBBBBBLE! !!!!! my heart was racing. He only gobbled a few times in the tree. after about 30 minutes I heard his wings and he was down! He flew down behind me witch happens somtimes hunting this close to the roost! I could hear him spitting and drumming. I turned my head to look. I could not see him but knew he was close! I quickly turned and pointed my gun. I thought I caught glimps of something in the brush. I looked harder and relized he's 20 yards from me strutting comming my way! !!!!!!!!!! I easy the gun up and squeezed off! Down he went! I sat there in disbelief lol my season was officially over!

Congrats on another bird BH. You sure do have the off the roost hunts mastered....I kill almost all my birds mid-day, rarely have any luck right off the roost. Congrats!
