If you don't mind, can you share some details about this hunt? What made you chose the locations for your trail cams, what were the factors in chosen your stand location, some things that you observed, etc.

Thanks and congrats again!

I setup my cameras on trails. Since we go early season the elk are not very vocal. Calling just wasn't working the two previous years, so I decided to use what I have learned hunting whitetails to hunt the elk. Find hot trails and setup according to the wind. The spot I killed the bull, The trail crosses a creek coming down the mountain. It's on a bench with a steep incline to the east and drops off to the west. A natural funnel where all the trails come to one. The added bonus is the water.

Right on, we're planning on going early season when they shouldn't be very vocal as well. I don't plan on calling if I don't have to but rather just hunt the terrain. Thanks for the info!

That was awesome. Nothing like a several hundred pound pile of elk at your feet, then taking it apart and hauling it off the mountain. That stirred some memories for me.
