Most fulfilling season yet..
I hunted extremely hard this year. I am in Medical school and have a very demanding schedule. I took a lot of time to scout this year and focus on one property.
I lost my Grandpa this March, who I grew up hunting with. Every year I would wish that he could kill just one more deer as he got increasingly ill and he always got it done.
As hard as I scouted in past years, I doubled down this year and never slept in or got down early. My goals were simple
1. To kill AND recover a whitetail with a bow.
2. Finally kill a decent buck!
The last 2 years, I have killed a spike each year and seen nothing else, despite hunting pretty hard.
This year I knew it was the year!
I missed a doe opening day (sept 15th) by misranging after shooting every single day of the year.
Did not see another deer until late October when two does walked into a small kill plot I made over the summer and I had my first clean bow kill in over 3 years:

Finally, I hunted the entire rut without seeing much other than a couple does.
On a whim, I hunted the other side of this farm where I had never seen much activity, but I jumped two does walking out one morning. I had almost given up for the year as my family was sick of me always being gone hunting.
I went and sat with the rifle against this pine where I could see about 60 yards. One doe crept up on me and I almost shot, but it wasn't clean.
Then Tex appeared out of nowhere! I got one picture of this buck 2 years ago as a 1.5 year old or 2.5 year old making him 3/4, at 50 yards all I could see where his antlers poking out of the woods. I followed his neck line down to his front shoulder and squeezed off a round.
He took off and crashed, I found no blood, but after 20 minutes of looking, I found Tex rammed into a tree dead. I completely broke, this is by far one of the most special deer I have ever killed, as he was sent out of nowhere by my Papa.
It was also the same date that I killed my first deer as a 12 year old with my Papa. This is a big deer for South Carolina and a very hard-earned buck.

Hard work pays off. Way to put him on the ground.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.
