Appreciate the great feedback, thanks for the nice words. This was a crazy cool hunt, I'll say that. We spent three days adding up the miles on Jared's new-to-him minivan checking out different areas before we found this area. On day four, we brought the canoe and flew by the seat of our pants, paddling up stream against an angry current and rapids, forcing us to get out and walk the boat for long stretches at a time. There were a few public pieces abutting this stretch of river that seemed difficult to access by walking in and would have made for longer of a walk than most would be willing to hike. So, we figured we'd make a day of it and check each of them out. Each piece was at least a mile apart, and the one I killed the buck on was the furthest away.

It had rained overnight and was on and off again all day for this particular hunt. We packed extra clothes, but the boat was leaky and with the rain, it was nearly impossible to keep dry.

Temps had dipped, so between the dampness from the rain, the sweat from the river excursion and the cool temperatures, comfort was a foreign word to us. It was a steep climb getting over the bluff along the river where the public started, and there was only one walk-in access on the opposite side and it didn't appear to obvious based on the aerials.

I'm convinced these kinds of public hunting areas get hunted more by the private land owners than public land hunters.

We encountered a young buck with good potential early into the ground assault. He was 15-yards apart from us and broadside with thick brush in between. A short stare down was enough time that it would have ended quicker had he been the one we were after.

Eventually we found a hot area covered with sign of recent activity. Scrapes were all around, and with the rain having smeared most of the previous day scrapes smooth, the fresh tracks made it evident there were active bucks in the area. I can't give the whole story away, but what happened in the next hour and a half will pin you to your seat as you watch it unfold if you pick up the next Whitetail Adrenaline DVD - plus you'll see Shey kill a big one on another boat adventure, along with 204" typical with the longbow in Kansas (both made public on the Whitetail Adrenaline Facebook page), and more.

This was a hunt I will never forget, and I'm sure Jared won't either. Success was celebrated that night... Inner tenderloins on the grill and a couple of cold ones.

I missed this on the first go around. Very very very cool, love the canoe photos. Can't wait to watch it in a few months.
