2015 Public Land Archery Buck

Unread postby Jphunter » Wed Nov 25, 2015 1:13 am

I finally located another buck on Saturday morning.
Image
It was a spot I scouted in June and I haven't been back since then. It is an area that is open to hunting by permit and mine was good for 3 days. I wasn't able to hunt the first day because I had to work. On the day of the hunt I went to a spot that is overlooked for the morning hunt and saw a few deer but nothing I wanted to shoot. I had a couple hunters walk past me so I took my stand down at around 10:00. There were 8 or 10 other guys parked in this parking area so I decided I needed to go to the farther secluded spot that I scouted in the summer. This spot has all the ingredients to hold a good buck. It is over a mile from the parking area, it has obstacles to cross on the way. It has bedding points with good cover and a few oaks that we're dropping acorns. When I walked in I could see a lot of big tracks and rubs so I knew a good buck was in the area. The oaks were dropping acorns and it looked like they were getting hit. I set my stand and sticks and hunted right then and there about 5:00 I heard the deer circle from the west and come from the bottom of the point and worked his way up the point to the acorns where he offered me a quartering away shot. He is a main frame 10 point with a couple stickers and a little sticker sticking out of his right side base. In the picture it looks like his right beam is broke but it just curls in toward the other so it looks that way.
