First and foremost I want to thank everyone on here for letting me in on the proper way to hunt deer. Sorry for the bad pic he was on the side of a 45 degree cliff. I have been lurking here for quite a while and have been a sponge. I just became a member Friday. I really want to thank the Big Buck Serial Killer and Bow hunter 15 for being great teachers. I have learned how to read the top maps to locate promising areas and then went out looking for beds. I found my bucks bed by looking at the rub line he opened up right on the leeward side of a ridge. His bed was textbook. He was bedded right on the ridge point behind a large blowdown getting the thermals from in front of him and the prevailing wind from behind him. It was just like Dan said about hill country bucks.
So I set up about 60 to 70 yards from his bed along his rub line. Well, this morning he came through with 3 does. I made a good 40 yard shot and he fell down the ravine. I am not very good at gauging size so I asked the taxidermist to guess and he said probably low 150's. Thanks for letting me in on your secrets. He is a 10 point main frame with a split brow tine making for his 11th point.
