Luck in Michigan
Got lucky on this fella last night. I set up on bedding that traditionally had action this time in the past. No trail cam pics or glassing prior. What I did key in on was an 8 year history of this area showing mature buck action mid October. The cold front reinforced the decision to hunt here.
Hunt:
It was a breezy night..and winds were shifty. I heard something walking about 20 min before dark straight down wind of me. I got ready just in case. I saw it was a buck but couldn't tell much else. The vegetation was thick and I needed to make a very quick decision to shoot or pass. I glassed him as he approached a shooting lane and saw thick main beams. I'm shooting..
The Shot:
I drew the bow back and had to stop the buck as he entered a narrow shooting lane at 30 steps. I aimed low heart as he was alert and though he might react to the shot. Floated my pin on the spot and pulled through the shot..bam! shot goes off. Well he didn't react to the shot noise and the shot hit where I aimed. The shot looked a little low for my liking but I knew it was a heart shot. I heard a crash a few seconds later.
Recovery:
Ramcat broadhead left an easy to follow blood trail for this color blind fella. He ran about 80 yards and piled up. Thanks JML2 for the help on the drag.
The deer:
Upon recovery I realized that I had passed this buck last year during muzzle loader. Not a high scoring monster but I'm happy with him. He has a goofed up side and 9 points, good mass and a big body.

Luck doesn't harvest a deer like that too often. I think you are doing something right. Congrats

Congrats, bro. So in 8 yrs how many bucks have you taken out this bedding area? Anything that makes it special this time of year? As a newbie with just a hand full of decent bedding areas in my pocket accumulated over 3 yrs, you are giving me hope some my pay off multiple times!!!!

I've taken two, messed up on an opportunity on another. Trail cam and sightings confirm this. I think its a combination of increased hunting pressure in the surround areas along with corn coming down (less security cover). I notice these trends in several different areas so I will always give a few sits in areas that traditionally heat up during specific time frames through the season. I keep track of all this information but it does take years to accumulate.
