Congrats Mike, that is the good stuff right there.

Don't beat yourself up too much on the shot, just be glad it worked out. I think every bow hunter has been saved once or twice by the artery running back under the spine to the hind legs. I have been at least twice. Its the difference between a clean kill and a long suffering death and uncertain recovery. Glad you shared how you hit it, very educational. Get your confidence back with some practice and get back out there.

I shot my bow tonight and everything was still dead on. Anchor points all the same. When I shot this doe on Saturday I was not shook up or anything. I paced the yardage after the shot and used the right pin. Practiced all summer and in season. My bow was paper tuned and broadhead tuned. She did lunge at the shot but I was dead on double lung when I touched my release. Still can't explain how in the heck I hit her that far back. Unless she lunged forward and ducked. Granted I hit the artery and this deer died within 40-50 yards, it just goes to show know matter how hard you practice, no matter fast your bow is, no matter if your bow is perfectly in tune, shooting at a deer there are so many variables that go into place compared to shooting at a target. The deer can move, your nerves might take over and cause you to flinch, you may even hit a branch. I'm still tore up about this shot. I don't count a dead deer as sign of a good shot. I shot for at least a half hour tonight at 30 yards that she was at and never missed a 2" bullseye. Most groups were touching. I don't take shots like these lightly. I urge others to do the same and double check after an arrow hits off from its intended mark.
