Beast Style Success
My first sit of the year produced an opportunity. Last years 28 did not, but I wasnt as "read up" on beast hunting as I am now. I scouted a lot last winter/spring. The spot I hunted had a perfect entrance...creek to drainage and then 40 yards to a tree. Last years rubs and scrapes had been freshened, and it was perfect NE wind bedding. At 654pm, I saw him coming. Just walking and eating. Got to 12 yards, but I had no shot. At 20 yards, He stopped behind a tree with all of his vitals exposed. I squeezed and knew I hit back. What I didnt know was he was quartering more than I thought. I was 3 sticks high taking advantage of the foliage all around me, and he never knew what hit him. He tucked tail and ran over a rise...and all was quiet. I got down and looked, but the light was weird...so I backed out.
Woke up this AM, and was there at sunup with my boys and good buddy. We found blood at the impact, then found the arrow about 8-10 yards in.
We followed blood down the hill and back up, and there he lay. Dead in his bed. All 4 legs tucked neatly under him. If I wouldve pushed him last night Im sure I wouldve busted him out. Couple things:
1. Entry was great.
2. Wind was marginal for me and great for him.
3. Last years scouting showed me where to start.
4. Thanks beasts for the info/advice along the way!
