Thats awesome man! Unreal actually :D

Can you talk about why you chose a treestand type hunt for your bull over the standard tactics most guys use? Is the area you are hunting more conducive to such hunts etc? Any certain terrian features besides water to look for? I'm wanting to head out west myself soon and these tactics would be an easier transition than covering a ton of ground everyday for a rookie like myself. Any suggestions?

Congrats again man. Using traditional equipment makes it that much better!

Totally awesome.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Congrats man!! Good job. I believe the key to your success was your summer pre-scout. Just like whitetails boots on the ground intel is key! Enjoy the rest of your time there.

We hunt the opening week so the elk are not very vocal as the rut has not started. They are also not all boogered up from pressure. I figured if the trail camera showed they are passing regular, I should hang a stand where I can see better and keep my scent up.
The trail crosses a creek coming down the mountain. It's on a bench with a steep incline to the east and drops off to the west. A natural funnel where all the trails come to one. The added bonus is the water! All the black in this pic is tracks where they have it stomped out. Then not 3 minutes after sticking this bull another good bull crosses at the closer dark spot left of the downed tree at 5 yards!
