Lighting strikes twice 5/1/15

Unread postby BigHunt » Sat May 02, 2015 8:12 am

I arrived in western Wisconsin yesterday at about 11 o'clock I unpack my truck and headed out to the woods. I headed back to a spot were traditionally I have seen Strutters and killed a couple of them. as soon as I got there I set up made a few calls and instantly a gobbler responded. he was coming right to me and then in the background I heard the farmers tractor coming he decided to plant corn so the tom never showed.. once i realize he was going to be there for a while I grab my stuff and dove into the valley.

after sitting down in the valley for a while it was aparent that the tom was still there! he gobbled a few more times. there is a house at the end of this valley I looked and there was two women walking the road suddenly that Tom came out of nowhere running across the field. ...I'm just glad he wasn't spooked by me. it was quarter to eight at night so I knew he was going to be close . I waited for the right time and blew on my hooter and sure enough I got him to gobble

anticipation was high as I watch the sunset

the next morning was calm you could hear a pin drop I set up close to where I thought he was and sure enough I was only 80 yards away!

I had three different toms roosted last night two of them flew down and went the other way . The one had to have seen my decoy he pitched down into the field and came right to me kind of lol I'm not sure if he was still a little spooked from yesterday but he was hanging up out of range just circling me eventually he made his way into range at 35 yards behind me...I could see glimpses of him here and there through the bush once I saw him disappear I quickly turn around, i got up and peek my head over the rock and there he was he had no clue I was there he was still locked on the decoys .I slowly rose my gun and shot him!!!!!! I ran over there and to my surprise he had two beards again!!!!!! last year I killed a double bearder in this exact same spot!!!!!lightning strikes twice

24 pounds

First beard: 10 inches
Second beard: 6 inches
Spurs 1 inch
