Ha I wish... I never got to hunt there. We lost this spot before I started hunting.

WOW! That's crazy! I would crap my pants if that ever happened to me. Can only imagine what a rush that would have been.

That's incredible. What kind of setup did he use? You said it was prehung, was it a lock on and scree in steps. The most amazing part is he was able to kill 2 deer without all of the essential commercial products we have today. I think you must have forgotten the post of the story where he came back weekly to dump a fresh bag of corn on the ground.

Best I got is a deer and bear 20 minutes apart...
For real? I'd be having a couple cocktails after that, Ed!

I think it was a home made hang on. It almost had to be... I'll have to take some pics of his old set ups. Basically 1/4" rod bent in a small square and welded to a tree step. Screw that into the tree. Then the stand had a square tube that slid down thru the square opening. They could be super sketchy and by no means solid. Dad always made sure I had a harness on but I still don't consider them safe. I add a ratchet strap to the few I use now. And yes screw in tree steps.
He always wore hip boots. When he didn't want the extra heat he'd fold them down so they were only shin high. When it came to a water crossing or high grass where he didn't want to leave scent, he'd bring them up. I didn't even realize this until just now, but I think he shot those bucks with hip boots on in a tree I'm going to have to ask him tomorrow!

Definitely outside the box. Goes to show that when someone does something like your dad there is some luck involved, but 95% of hunters would never put theirself in position to take advantage of it. Props to you dad.

awesome story thanks for sharing. Just curious what kind of bow was he shooting, back then I'm sure it wasn't some kind of speed freak like we have available today.

I believe it was a Bear. He shot these bucks in '88 so yes... most likely near vertical limbs and cams the size of golf balls lol
He probably still has it in his basement somewhere.
