First 2 buck season thanks to The Hunting Beast
MA resident originally from MI
INTRODUCTION
It all started after reading an article about Dan in one of Buckmaster's magazine. I immediately contacted a buddy of mine (jmaas07) to discuss my enthusiasm about what I read. His response...."oh yea, Dan Infalt, join thehuntingbeast.com and you'll be hooked. That was this past summer and I've been a daily visitor since. Months leading to the 2014 season, I gathered as much intel I could on this site to help me become a more successful hunter (plan of attack hunter) where as my past success I consider "luck" bc there was no thought process nor effort.
MI BUCK
Nov. 15
Although I am a avid bowhunter, it's been a yearly tradition to hunt opening rifle season with the old man. I studied aerial maps of this large piece for the first time after 5 years of hunting there and narrowed down a great transition line for a NW wind opening morning hunt. With heavy oak ridges to the N and a swamp bottom S, I set up <100 yards E of a lake/marsh travel edge with the swamp behind me. Not even 15 minutes after sunrise, this buck came down chasing a doe on the predicted trail. The rest is history.

Oak ridge front, marsh left, buck and doe came down left side of pines in middle.

MA BUCK
Nov. 21
Being a newby to hunting in MA two years ago, I didn't know what to expect from such a low profile hunting state. Surprisingly, there are some great bucks out here. The problem for me was I couldn't rely so much on luck here in the small pocket hunting world. I learned out the hard way the previous couple of years here. Saw deer occasionally and a couple nice bucks but couldn't close the deal. Things had to change and this is when the light bulb turned on. Hours of thehuntingbeast paid off dividends.
This year I decided to hunt one of my spots I previously hunted, but this time my stand placement was completely different. After reading Dan's blog about don't overlook the overlooked. I ran out and scouted this area only to realize my set up only had to be 75 yds from my entry point. It was a tight corridor 30 yds off a swamp edge to and from doe bedding . First sit 4 does. Gave it a rest (kept reminding myself the posts Dan talks about not overhunting a spot). Long story short. Hunted this stand 3 more times in a 3 week span only on the right wind. Passed 4 separate bucks on the exact same trail which I've never seen before. Last hour of light, my first MA buck came through at 18 yds and let an arrow fly. Looks like I found a buck speedway during the rut phases. The great thing about this harvest was I recovered him in his bed! (another beast blog flashback)

Great bucks man, love the stories!
The bottom 'IMG' code is the one you want for the pics to show.

True words of wisdom! I believe posting unmarked aerial maps can give it away since I can memorize details of my surrounding grounds.

You did very well.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Nice bucks!
When that big buck walks towards you this fall, concentrate on your breathing and get your eyes off his antlers.
