Old man knocks one down
My old man has been bow hunting for 50 years plus and has shot a lot of deer in his day. Most are not big bucks but he was trying to change some things up the last 5 or so years before running into some bad luck.
Keeping it short, he hasn't hunted much the last three archery seasons because of health issues. From melanoma cancer that lead to the removal of most in his lymph nodes in the leg/abdomen area, septic shock the next year from who knows what and then replacing his two fake knees because of the infection. Throw in some bladder and kidney stones and he needed some recuperating time off.
Anyway he said this is his year. His 2nd year with a cross bow, though he had a permit for the last 15 years he refused to use one. His shoulder wouldn't pull 40 lbs back on his compound anymore and turned to the cross bow. He did shoot a doe last year with it and said it wasn't half bad.
Anyway at my daughters birthday party Sunday he and mom drove to our home and celebrated with the rest of the family. I recall him saying he say good size tracks coming and going from a stand area I have hunted since grade school. I didn't pay much attention but wished him luck.
Tonight I got the call and mom sent the text picture over.
Not a huge monster but for sure a great public land northern WI buck. Old man says on the phone....." Didn't I tell you Sunday I would get him this week?"
Good job Dad. Nice buck.

That's awesome. He has overcome a lot of challenges and deserved that buck. Hope it keeps him excited and in the hunt for many more years to come.

Awesome
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

Nice Buck. Nothing like early season bucks, coats still look good.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.
