That's more or less my philosophy too, and the last few minuits involved in shooting this buck were about as fine of a deer hunting experience as one can get IMO

I got the rack home and compared it to some other racks I have in my shed, despite the short points IMO its actualy a pretty nice set of horns in its own right. When I look at the rack head on I still just see those points up there, quite a bit wider and higher than the ears. I think I'd have probably killed that deer most years under those circomstances. My neighbor pretty much said the same thing.

I agree.....I hope to see a buck that size rifle in hand the next few weeks.

105"-130" is a good north woods buck and the difference in inches can just be a drout year, bad winter before or stressful breeding the year before.

Nothing wrong with the deer you shot, congrats again, and I'd take one like that everyday of the week and twice on Sundays. ;)

Good luck to you, I hope to see the pictures soon. Hopefully you find your hunts just as rewarding as I have mine.

Thanks guys, I don't usually put a tape to any of my antlers but while I was thawing that deer out for butchering I got curious. That rack is just a hair shy of 20" wide which seems pretty good to me, its a deer that is "big for his size".

The tempature was about -10 F when I shot him, cold enough that the adjustment ring on most of my scopes start get a little stiff to turn.
