Last Chance Buck!
It is crazy how things happen, even crazier when it comes to bow hunting. I knew that after all the wind, and rain over the weekend deer should be on their feet and moving. My area the rut seems to be prolonged because of all the crap weather. Cyber scouted 2 new areas to hunt, got to the first spot at daybreak. Dead calm, brisk and frosty. The spot was much smaller than I thought. Did not take long to decide to pull out. Just did not feel it. Second spot, not much better. Evidence of hunters, and its only a small island. Just going to leave and on the hillside of Private land adjoining cattails 2 bucks one big boy are chasing a doe. Seen one good trail coming out of cattails and set up. Did not have camera ready yet and here comes some noise. Frosty cattails as you know are LOUD. Well there was another trail to my right about 40 yds did not know was there until 3 doe came out. Wanted to poke one but stick in the way. No shot. I sat for another 2 hours and watched 2 other bucks follow trail of hot doe on private hillside. One pretty good one. Well that was it. Early Bow season done for me. Could not hunt evening. Wife calls around 1 pm her contact was really bothering her. Coming home early. LIGHTBULB! To her dismay I scooted out to a quick little doe spot, wanted some venison with bow. I gave up on this spot after a guy pretty much Homesteaded it. But winter wheat field, and wind direction, and easy quick walk convinced me to give it a shot. Doe blew at me setting up, then around 430 PM there were 4 does within 50 yds but snuck in low and on Private already. Here come a buck grunting super loud and chasing them. Thought maybe one would come my way. Stayed in field. Time fading, took camera off arm, went to grab bow to remove arrow and here walks a buck to check out the grunting. I seen his G1 all white and had about 5 seconds to decide to shoot. Good shot and he went 40 yds. WOW! He is not bigger than my opening day video buck I passed on, but funny how things work out. Could not be happier. All the hours and walks, and rain, wind, chores not done, wrong set ups, etc. And to go out on a whim, and put one down. Its been said before and sometimes its better to be lucky than good! To all the Beasts have a Safe and Productive Gun Season... Time for a repeat.. Only a touch bigger I hope..

Re: Last Chance Buck!
Thanks guys. Don't know why he has such short tines. Wide and good mass. No minerals or Trophy Rock on Public Land I guess. HaHa
