He's Down!

Unread postby Haus86 » Mon Nov 04, 2013 3:57 pm

Tonight was not shaping up to be a good night, but in the end we got it done. My wife and I headed to a farm we just got permission on this year. Last week, my wife had an encounter with a nice 10 pointer. Unfortunately, he stayed just a few steps out of range. Today we decided to go to the same stand even though the wind was questionable. In Summer, we hung a stand next to a pinch point between to large doe bedding areas. The does will typically get up from their beds and pass 20-30yrds in front of the stand on their way to the fields. Our afternoon started out slow, but soon enough some does and a small 8 pointer passed through. Moments later we heard footsteps coming along the trails we were set up on. It didn't take long for me to notice a nice buck following a doe, and they were heading straight for us. I realized right away, It was the same buck my wife and I had an encounter with last week. As the doe passed through, she ended up winding us. She snorted and took a few bounds away. Meanwhile, the buck stopped dead in his tracks at 15 yards while I was at full draw. Unfortunately, he stopped right behind a few small branches. Minutes passed, and I had to let my bow down and wait him out as he assessed the situation. A couple minutes later he took a few more steps, I stopped him, and let the arrow fly. The buck spun around and headed for some CRP where we saw him fall. It was my first buck on film!
