Halloween Buck
I finally got my Halloween buck
I setup in the same spot I was in on October 26th when I wounded a really good buck. I had a NW wind which was perfect. I actually setup down low. His bedding was on a North/South riding ridge on the top 1/3. I was setup about 100 yards away to the East just on the other side of the bottom. I know alot of guys dont like evening hunting down low but it worked. In this spot with the NW wind my scent skirted up and away to the south of where the bucks like to come out and check scrapes in the bottom. Cutting my scent from them by about 40 yards. I was in between his bedding and a foodsource that had fresh scrapes on it. Down below me 30 yards is the bottom or staging area. Its thick and has scrapes and a small natural spring.
It was cold and very light rain or mist. Good conditions for movement. I got in a 3:45pm. Then he came out right where I thought he would. All by himself. He smelled a few scrapes in the bottom took a drink of water and I thought to myself Im going to pass him. Then he caught me offguard and took a heavy trail right at me. I was setup 5 feet in a tree because it was my best cover with some brush around me. He came up the other side right at me. I decided if he gets this close Im going to take him!
He is walking at a steady pace and a thick bunch of thornbushes were in between me and him at 15 yards so I pulled back. He to within 7 yards and looked right at me. I let the arrow fly and nailed him in the front chest. I saw blood immediately and he started crashing fast. I watched crash through a bunch of saplings and brush before he came to a dead stop 40 yards away. I shot him in the heart.
I cant begin to explain the emotions I felt after all this happened. He isn't my biggest buck but Im so happy with him!
He is an older buck which is what I wanted. His teeth are worn down and are full of dentine.
He has a REALLY white face which I really like about him.
Check out the size of this hoof.

Didn't weigh him but guessed just under 200 pounds dressed out.
