Re: 10 pt down!
Alright I figured out the pic situation. So this is a buck we have some pics of, he is the 2nd biggest using the area where I shot him. I got in my stand about 3pm and was hunting this stand I set last year for the first time. I have seen a lot of nice bucks come thru this area when I have been sitting across the field so I thought my chances were pretty good, and the with the rain yesterday perking up the plots, a good moon and cooler temps, I felt pretty good about it. The biggest issue is I have to cross where the deer move through but this hasn't been a major problem because of the scent control measures I do (IMO), I prefer not to but you gotta get to where you can kill them.
There was someone dinking around to the north as I got in the stand, all I could hear was a 4 wheeler, not sure what was going on but they left within 45 mins or so, so there was time for things to settle. First deer I saw were 2 does to the south, they came out and started hitting the still green soybeans. Then a 100in 8pt came out and started feeding as well.
Since we haven't had much rain, some of my "plots" are bare dirt, and this was the case to the N. Wet bare dirt doesn't make a lot of noise when you walk on it, so I kept checking N to try to see anything cuz I wasn't gonna hear it. I looked N and caught a glimpse of good antler behind a box elder shrub, I think he was working a licking branch. I got ready and he popped into view at 25 yards within 12 to 15 seconds. He wasn't the one I was specifically looking for but he looked very good and was giving me a 12 yard shot so I meeped him quietly and got a nice double lung shot on him. He ran to the top of the hill 60 yards and started wagging the tail, and was done in sight. The does never even left the soybeans!
