Gooble Gobble

Unread postby Haus86 » Sun May 05, 2013 7:35 am

I went to some public land this morning with high hopes. It was supposed to be rainy, but it ended up being a nice morning. I got set up close to a roost and I had a tom gobbling 75 yards away at first light. Of course, along with those gobbles came 3 different sickly sounding yelps. It took me 2 seconds to realize I was being surrounded by 2-3 different hunters  . The tom flew down and of course headed their way. Moments later, I could hear the tom putting and I saw him running full speed away from the other hunters :D .

I decided to pack up and quickly head to another spot, mainly to look for mushrooms. As I was walking in I encountered one bazillion cows and figured there were no turkeys around. To my surprise, I spotted a couple toms strutting with a few hens in one of the top pastures. I quickly tried to cut them off. Once I was able to gain sight of them again, they had increased the distance. The pasture they were in is dome shaped and they were on the west side heading for the neighbors. I knew I had just a few minutes max to make my move, so I quickly circled around and sprinted 4-500 yards (with 2 short breaks  ). Once I reached my landmark, I headed straight across the pasture towards them. I slowed it down once I got to the crest of the pasture and to my surprise I caught them about 5 yards away from the fence and dumped one of the toms.
