Pulled one away from his buddys. Woodpile TOM
This is a bird I harvested last week. He has been flocked up with a bunch of birds on property I couldnt hunt.
I asked the property owner and he wouldnt allow any hunting. So after we talked for a while I realized he didnt like turkeys or he wasnt an anti hunter or anything....just was afraid of liability having people on his property. So I asked him if I could come back later on in the day, and bust that flock of birds up :) He laughed and said sure , he didnt see anything wrong with that. I can hunt a farm next door, so I had a plan. About 30 minutes before dark, the flock was making their way to a ridgeline to roost when I cam barrelling through the center of them running waving my arms!! This sent birds in about 6 different directions....and lucky for me 5-10 of them pitched right on a farm I can hunt.
So the next day came and just as expected, with the flock busted up, there was an enormous amount of gobbling and tree yelping going on. So once I got the birds attention, it was game on.
Finally I got a visual of the birds coming in strutting, BUT all I could see were Jakes! 6 darn jakes. After I left them alone for about 20 minutes they made their way into a field about 90 yards away.
When all of a sudden a gobble stood the hair on my neck up like a wire brush! I knew he was close, but was afraid to try and turn. When I finally laid eyes on him he walked behind a woodpile, I shouldered and when he stepped out the other side, it was jelly head time! He wasnt a big gobbler, but was so much fun to give chase too. He ended up weighing 18 lbs, had 1" spurs and a 10 inch beard.
I nick named him the woodpile bird.
That shed you see about 600 yards away is where he was the evening before when I busted them up!
Now I LOVE to hunt turkeys, but nibblets are one of my very favorites:

Now that is one way to handle the property you cant hunt. I will remember that one. Kinda went all fall on them, with the busting them up part and making them vocalize their positions and using their natural desire to reassemble.
Well done

2 things..... 1st... awesome job!
2nd.... you can get hunters insurance pretty cheap that would release liablity from the landowner.
I pay $40 a year for mine...

Congrats on the nice bird.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Now that is using your head. I might try that one. Been working on a tom that is roosted in the same spot every night but he has 9 or 10 hens with him and won't leave them. If I get desperate I will try busting them up like that.
