Buds 1st Bow Deer Down Tonight
One of my buds has never bow hunted before and stopped gun hunting 15 plus years ago. After hanging with me for a while hinted he wanted to try bowhunting. Said he had a bow that is quite old, I said no problem we'll make it work.
Last weekend was sighting in, fixing the rest, buying new arrows and more practice. We hunted one night and he had a few close calls but couldn't close the deal. Made plans for tonight as my wife was working and with me watching the kids I would never make it to any of my "buck" spots by the time she made it home from work.
Went to one of "our" spots that is almost a doe slam dunk.....did have a 100" 8 pointer that was showing sporadicly but gave him the green light to shoot any size deer. I hunted about 100-125 away yards and wished him good luck.
Heard him shoot no more than 20 minutes after I was up in m tree......he then texted me that he had shot one. Great news! I texted back we will track it in a little bit.....no need to he said, it's dead 10 yards from the tree! Holy smokes!
Long story short we hunted until dark, I saw 6 does and fawns, could have shot 4 of them but passed because knew we had a drag to get his deer out.
She is a nice big doe.....weighed her in the garage, scale says 135-136....a real dandy first bow deer. Skinned her tonight because of the cold night coming tonight and cut out the inner loins.
His girlfriend stopped out and with my wife and kids and a mini steak fry and a little celebration. They just left the house and will be back for the cleaning tomorrow am and maybe time for me to chase a buck in a different spot.
Trail cam picture is right after he shot........I thought it was a cool picture.

Kudos to your friend.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Should be a nice buck next year! Hopefully you can get your tag filled, then go find that shed.

You betcha.... I'm guessing the mid 80's.
Would have let him borrow one of my old ones but he is a lefty.
