Second Mountain Buck Down (East TN)
After looking at the weather on Monday, the rain was supposed to begin tapering off around 3 pm. Although it didn't completely subside, the rain slowed to a drizzle around 4pm. As soon as the rain slowed, I began seeing deer. About an hour before dark, I spotted a single doe moving through a thicket and immediately began looking for a trailing buck.
After watching for a trailing buck for about 5 minutes, this buck stepped out of a pine thicket and headed in her direction. I took a quick glance at him through my binos and confirmed he was the buck I was after. I quickly shouldered my rifle and sent a 140 grain .270 bullet through both lungs. Fortunately, I made a great shot and did not have to worry about following a blood trail in the rain.
I was saving my last tag for a buck named "Big 10." I've been watching Big 10 the past 3 years and found his sheds from the previous two years. Unfortunately, I found out yesterday that our neighbors who lease the adjoining property killed Big 10 about 10 days ago. I don't want to assume the worst, but I have a feeling the buck wasn't killed on their lease. Big 10 had 17 points and scored 170. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement!
Anyways, here is a pic:

Wow that is a nice buck. Congratulations on yhe kill. Do you keep any trail cameras out during the season? That would be a definite way of knowing if those guys are hunting back on your lease.

Uber buck.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Sure do, but not around the border of our property as I'm afraid the cameras would be stolen.
Here is the pic of the buck that was killed. I first found his picture when I looked up "slob" in the dictionary...
There's a chance this buck was migrating to Iowa or Illinois and simply got lost. This is the last picture I got of him before he was killed. He has a split G3 on the left side and a split G2 on the right side.
