Daughters first deer

Unread postby ScoutHuntShed » Wed Dec 05, 2012 9:23 am

My daughter got her first deer on opening morning on our place in Jackson County. She's 13 now and hunted the youth hunt when she was 11 and had a close call. Last year she hunted youth, gun, and muzzleloader and we came close but couldn't get her a shot.

My brother has a great opening morning spot and asked if he could take her as he thought she'd have a good chance at seeing some deer early. We built up a new blind in front of a rock out cropping so they had plenty of cover and comfort. Well at 7:40am she got a 10 yard shot at a nice 2.5 year old eight pointer. She made a perfect shot and he piled up near the bottom of the ridge.

Here's my brother in the blind while he and I were building it.

I was so happy when they called and told me the buck was down within sight. I climbed down and headed over for pics and dragging. I think she's hooked and we've started talking about getting her a bow this summer.

Very cool.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
