Big buck(For me)

Unread postby PK_ » Mon Nov 26, 2012 4:18 am

A few weeks ago I drove up to a large piece of state land in central Florida. I had a couple promising spots prepped along a long cypress swamp. I was confident that nobody had been back that deep since I was there last postseason. Muzzeloader had opened the weekend before and I figured the instant rise in hunting pressure would have driven some buck activity back into the areas I was headed to. The second evening I was hunting just over 2 miles deep at a pinch between the large swamp and a smaller one which ran perpendicular. I had a doe come across the 'high ground funnel' with a dandy buck in-tow. When the doe got directly below me I knew I had to take the buck before she got downwind of my steps. He was basically facing right at me, 25 yards. The pictures don't do him justice, he had 5" bases, 21.5" inside spread and weighed 195lbs. live. The taxi guessed him between 7.5-9.5 years old. That thing was a 'Beast' to get out of the woods...
My biggest Florida buck so far.

Dandy buck.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Great buck! Just killing a buck in that age class would have me smiling no matter how big his antlers were.

Congrats! 8-)
