Northwoods buck down!

Unread postby Dewey » Sun Nov 18, 2012 8:48 am

Been real tough hunting up here in Vilas County the last few years so I was not going to be too picky on size. Just glad to finally put one in the freezer! Been buck only for 3 years now so not much shooting going on up here during the rifle season. Used all of my vacation for bowhunting this year so I only had this opening weekend of gun hunting to kill a buck.

Shot this young 7 point buck this morning at 10:45 a.m. at 5 yards. I know it's rifle season but I still like to get them close!

This hunt was satisfying because it was an area I never set foot in before. I cyber scouted and set up entirely on topos and aerial maps. The spot I set up on was a finger and ridge that comes out of a swamp. The buck I killed was my 6th deer I saw this morning and this is more than my last 3 years combined during gun season. These really have been some lean years!

The Nosler Ballistic Tip really did a number on the heart! Can't believe he went 50 yards with his heart pretty much disintegrated. Can't say I have ever seen so much blood!

I was actually thinking about giving up gun hunting but now I am very glad I decided to go this year. Been awhile since I killed a deer so it was good to shake the cobwebs off. Now I can get back to focusing on killing a big buck with my bow!

Congrats Dewey, I know the hardships you are hunting with. My hunting party this year caved in and disbanded due to hunting up there the past 15 years. It hard. Nice job.
It's not a problem, it's a opportunity for a solution.

Good job on the nice buck Dewey.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
