Re: Got One in NC!
The Kill.
On Saturday @ 9:00am it all came together for me. I perched myself in the LW using 2 sticks and 5:45am. The wind was out of the west and any cruising buck would have to come by me scent checking doe bedding. I was over looking the marsh and a drainage that runs under a major interstate. I also features an inside corner, transistion line, and power line. I could also see the tree Prospect Bob beds under. Walking to the set up that morning on the power line I had a hunch this morning could go good. I also felt the pressure to get it done. I only had this weekend and one day off of work for all day sits. I told myself to have fun, relax, and have confidence in my set-up.
At 9:00am I heard bucks grunting and grabbed my bow. It was a spike and 2yr 6pter hoping thru the marsh right past Bobs bed. I seen a doe get up from here bed and take off right past my stand. I looked back to Bobs bed and he was headed my way. I drew back right then and 3 seconds later he stood 17yds from me and I stopped him. I barely steaded my pin and thought kill. The arrow was sent. I didnt hear the arrow hit him over the pounding in my chest. Did I miss him? I had this quick talk with God about give me a chance to send one more his way. As I reached for the arrow he looked right at me....It was sort of an erie feeling that seemed to last for minutes, even though it was mere seconds. I had been found out...our eyes locked. We were at a draw like something from an western gun fight. We booth went to make our move at the same time. Me for my arrow and for him to dissapear and crush my heart. Then he fell. And he didnt get back up. And there I stood a more seasoned hunter who had won. All the battles lost and on this day I won. I humbly thanked God and just kind of worshiped Him with raw emotions. There are not many feelings better than killing a mature buck. And for most of us it never leaves us. And we spend year after year searching to find that feeling again.
