$700 for a head mount?
If you new of a taxidermist who did exceptional work, show quality, would you pay $700 or more for mounting a buck of a lifetime? Not talking about a 140/150 inch buck, but say you got a 170 or bigger?

I've done it. It would have to be more than a shoulder mount though.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

Re: $700 for a head mount?
Not sure if I would pay that much for a deer shoulder mount. Most taxidermist in my area charge $400-$450 and do excellent work so I would have a hard time spending an extra $250-$300. I would rather spend that extra money on hunting gear that I may need. My last buck shoulder mount was exactly $393.75 in 2009.
I did pay $1000 for a 1/2 mount of a Black Bear about 5 years ago but alot more work goes into that than any deer mount so I feel it was worth spending the money.

I have a few excellent taxidermists in my area and $400 is the price. That being said if there weren't any good ones in the area and it was a deer of a lifetime maybe.

Re: $700 for a head mount?
If it was a special buck to me and the mount was a quality mount I would pay $700.00
BTW, score would factor in but the hunt as a whole would be the deciding factor.

Re: $700 for a head mount?
It would have to be over 200 inches to consider that price. My guy does FANTASTIC work and actually took the week long taxidermy class from the guy I'd consider for nearly $700.

Re: $700 for a head mount?
Shoulder mounts from my guy run about 350...I think they are of excellent quality. As far as 700, Well if that is what it would take I would pay it, But I think I would be doing a bit more shopping around if that is what my taxi charged. And boy would the Mrs. be pissed........

Re: $700 for a head mount?
You bet....if it was a memorable hunt, and a good buck, if that's the cost I'd pay it. My point of view...I always get more $, once I spend the time it's gone forever, and never seem to have enough time for hunting.

Re: $700 for a head mount?
I pay $500 a head, now. $700 on a buck of a lifetime, most definatly. My taxidermist does exceptional work in my opinion though, and I would have him do it. But for sake of the poll yes, A good taxidermist will make it look awesome, not to mention it would probably last a lot longer too.

I think I would do it too, it would need to be one heck of a buck and I would like to see noticeable difference in quality.

Ditto
I'm having a pedestal mount done on last years public land KS buck. I consider him a BOL. I have 325$ into an amish-made to match (my furniture) pedestal, and about 100$ into form/eyes etc. `75 into tanning and whatever my neighbor charges me for labor.
