The World Taxidermy and Fish Carving Championships are held every other year somewhere in the US. The last several years they have tried to keep it centrally located in IL or MO. This year it is St. Charles, MO.
Many of the mounts have a few hundred hours or more in them.
The mount in the link below was done by the Artistry of Wildlife in MI. The owner, Dennis Harris, is known for his "air" mounts. In this mount the moose and 6 of the wolves are all attached and are supported only by one of the moose's front legs that goes into the base. That mount should win something in the Collective Artists division and quite possibly a Best in World title. 2 years ago the guys that did this mount won the Best in World title for Collective Artists with a zebra standing upright on one leg and a lioness attached by her tail to one of the zebra's front legs. There is likely a picture of it on their website.

No. I have never been to a World show but I'd like to go some day which would probably be several years from now. I'm not good enough to compete in the upper levels of that show but if I went I would probably enter something in the lower levels and I think I could do o.k.
The other thing is it is time consuming and expensive to compete in general and I can't justify the time or cost to do a World show anytime soon.
I'm taking a wild guess here but I think that the time and materials in the moose and wolves mount easily has $50K+ in it.
