I didn't really keep tabs.. I fleshed it by hand. That was probably a couple hrs. Then salted it down for about 4 days. Then pickled it for 72 hours. Then neutralized it for about 45 minutes. Then stripped off the membrane by hand. Washed it good. That was maybe another hour or so. Then let it dry for about 8 hours till it was wet/tacky. Then tanned it. Let it sit folded up for 16 hours. Unfolded it and let it sit flat for 16 hrs. Then started working it as it dried. I did some research on how to do it. It's all online if you dig around. There are a ton of different ways to do it. I just chose what was easiest for me to get supplies.

If I could make a shoulder mount look that good on my own, I’d never use a taxidermist. It’s on “the list” of things I’d like to accomplish in my lifetime. Good work oldrank!

Looks good man, I bet with a little more practice you could turn out top notch stuff. From a previous post, I remember you're quite the artist.

I always wanted to be a taxidermist, infact I became good friends with one begging him to let me work for free and be an apprentice. I spent two days fleshing out capes b4 he dropped the bomb on me. He asked if I liked to hunt I said luv it.. Then he informed me this would be the last job u want, he said that he got into taxidermy for the same reasons I was looking into it and he also loved to hunt yet he hasn't been in over 10 years. That was the end of my taxidermy career, still great friends with the man. Great work oldrank, would luv to try one but my wife seems to think I already have to many hobbies.

Looks ok to me.

That's pretty darn good if you ask me. Especially for your 2nd attempt! Keep shooting big ones so you can keep practicing. ;)
